Disrespect, and MORE Disrespect.

A News Item on Egypt's proposal of of promulgating a law that would allow a man to have "farewell intercourse" with his dead wife spurred a LOT of controversy around the world. Here's what DW thinks.

Sreejesh Kaipully's views: "The ULTIMATE disrespect for a Woman."

Egypt’s new Islamist-dominated parliament is preparing to introduce a controversial law that would allow husbands to have sex with their deceased wives up to six hours after death. Known as the "farewell intercourse” law,as a part of the reforms, they are also planning of lowering the age of marriage for girls to 14. Egypt’s National Council for Women is campaigning against the changes, saying that ‘marginalising and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development'.
Dr Mervat al-Talawi, head of the NCW, wrote to the Egyptian People’s assembly speaker Dr Saad al-Katatni addressing her concerns. Egyptian journalist Amro Abdul Samea reported in the al Ahram newspaper that Talawi complained about the legislations, which are being introduced under ‘alleged religious interpretations’. The subject of a husband having sex with his dead wife arose in May 2011 when Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari said marriage remains valid even after death.

He also said that women have the right to have sex with her dead husband, alarabiya.net reported.
It seems the topic, which has sparked outrage, has now been picked up on by Egypt’s politicians.
TV anchor Jaber al Qarmouty slammed the notion of letting a husband have sex with his wife after her death under the so-called ‘Farewell Intercourse’ draft law. “This is very serious. Could the panel that will draft the Egyptian constitution possibly discuss such issues? Did Abdul Samea see by his own eyes the text of the message sent by Talawi to Katatni?,” the Daily Mail quoted him as telling the website. “This is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe to give the husband such a right! Has the Islamic trend reached that far? Is there really a draft law in this regard? Are there people thinking in this manner?” he added.

Moreover having such extreme religious concepts in the Muslim Religion, how could a Muslim nation pass a law that just turns upside down the beliefs and culture of the Muslim Society and religion? The Jasmine Revolution that took place in Egypt and is currently following in many parts of Middle East, I wonder, if it was Hosni Mubarak, things would not have been such worse. The respect that Egyptian women deserve is getting of no value by just a brink of thought for such a nasty law. The Egyptian Government cannot afford to become Necrophilic.

Zafar Ihsan's views: How Obnoxious!
Egypt's Plan to Legalize Husbands to 'Have Farewell Sex' With Dead Wives – How Obnoxious
To think that the Egyptians who have descended from one of the oldest known civilizations in the world would think of actually even contemplating enacting such a law makes you want to throw up. Is this what the 'Arab Springs' was about? The Egyptians toppled a dictator to bring in despots. The Moroccan cleric who says that marriage remains valid after death appears to be a moron who knows nothing about Islam and its laws. What is more shocking is that Egypt, which has a majority of Muslims who seem to have no idea about what Islam entails.
Such acts of utter stupidity just go to prove that by and large Muslim men are egotistic idiots. To even think of performing such an act will make any man with even an iota of decency puke at the very thought and break out into cold chills. He would be ashamed of himself for even harboring such thoughts. The very first words that any Muslim utters on hearing of somebody's death are, 'All of us have to ultimately return to Allah'. Most importantly after a wife dies the marriage is considered to have ended and the husband is not allowed to bury his wife. It’s the woman's father or brother or sons who are permitted to bury her. In case there are no surviving male relatives of the woman, the husband deputes men who will lay her body to rest in the grave.
Lowering the marriageable age of girls is another perverse act. If this is the way Egypt is headed then even God will not help them, and they might as well give up Islam and go back to becoming heathens.

  1. Unbelievable! To think after the 'Arab Springs' Egypt would become a progressive nation. That perverted cleric should be tried and strung up. How despicable that such an act is actually being considered to be legalized.
