Ban requests additional UN troops for CAR mission
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is requesting that 560 UN troops be assigned to protecting the UN mission in the Central African Republic. If approved by the Security Council, 250 UN troops could be deployed immediately. A Security Council vote is slated for Friday. Reuters (10/23)

UN, OPCW expect to achieve November deadline for Syrian chemical weapons
Experts from the United Nations and the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons have visited the majority of Syrian chemical-weapons manufacturing sites, dismantling them in line with a Nov. 1 deadline.
