Female Inmates Sterilized in California prisons Without Approval
Doctors under contract with the California prisons sterilized nearly 150 female inmates from 2006 to 2010 without required state approvals, the Center for Investigative Reporting has found, The Sacramento Bee reported July 7. At least 148 women received tubal ligations in violation of prison rules during those five years – and there are perhaps 100 more dating back to the late 1990s, according to state documents and interviews.
Women of the Wall Blocked by Orthodox Female Activists 
Several thousand ultra-Orthodox protesters effectively blocked Jewish women activists campaigning for equal worship rights at the Western Wall from holding a monthly prayer session at the holy site, Reuters reported July 8. A spokeswoman for the movement, which is challenging the Orthodox monopoly over rites at the Western Wall, called the incident a setback after a court decided in April the women could legally don prayer shawls that Orthodox ritual says are meant for men only.
Ankara Bar Association Names First Female President
The Ankara Bar Association has elected its first female head, naming lawyer Sema Aksoy as the president, The Hurriyet Daily News reported July 8. Aksoy was nominated by the Democratic Left Lawyers’ Group and received 4,301 votes in the Second Extraordinary Congress of the Ankara Bar July 7. 
Church of England Debates Female Bishops Law
The Church of England's has begun debating revised plans to allow women to become bishops, BBC reported July 8. Delegates at the meeting in York will vote on the wording of a new church law, which will be decided at a future gathering. The last attempt to introduce female bishops was narrowly defeated at a synod meeting in November.
