Children without speech, convey a lot

Situations in life tend to carve one’s thoughts, beliefs and moreover a person’s personality. According to many psychologists, the age from birth to 7 years is the time, which builds a large part of one’s unconscious mind that further creates the personality. Hence, if a person has phobia, 80 per cent chances are that it was developed during the above-mentioned time due to an incident. There is one issue, which not many notice, but happens among us a lot.

In households, where domestic violence occurs quite regularly, the children are affected adversely, especially mentally. They having seen the things often, get so used to not speaking to many as there is always a threat in their minds, first that their home condition is not revealed to anyone as it might result in getting beaten too. Second by staying dumb at home while watching all this, it shuts their mouth so bad as they are unable to think about anything else other than their parents. They stop being involved in the world activities at an early stage, which ultimately makes them not up to date and this further affects on their relationships especially friendship as not many make friends who know nothing.

Home is our very first institution where we see, observe, learn and further apply the knowledge in the institutions we are tend to enter in future. If the roots are not strong, there is a probability that the rest of the tree would be able to stand for long. Hence, it is imperative that nurturing shall be seen and dealt with a lot of attention and sensitiveness.

Many of us might have noticed certain people who do not get into discussions in class or shout out loud a lot or come to someone and ask something. There is a 60 per cent chance that he or she might have witnessed such an incident. It is essential here, that we take a step towards them, stop thinking about the intellectual perspective, as on other terms the other being more experienced about life situations might be more intellectual than you as he knows certain truths of life and has courageously lived through the struggled life.

Way to crime

India. A country, which is proud of its heritage, culture and traditions, also has a setback. Mentality. People have become completely blind with faith luring over their minds.
The youth is affected by the thoughts the most. Witnessing the practices from the very beginning at institutions such as family, school, other communities all have a deep impact. The intrusion of the religious practices within one’s minds sometimes gives birth to criminal acts.
Some of the most commonly practiced criminal acts are rape, honor killings, eve teasing, etc.
Women in every religion, be it Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, etc. is given the highest respect. They are considered the ‘life givers’, which is a fact. They are kept equally with God.
Though India has advanced with time, still there are many small towns in the country, where people are very backward. The towns are in focus because there is no escape from the followings of families. When the youth from such backgrounds, face the developed, there is a tendency that the reaction is not what a developed person generally expects.
Clothes for a matter of fact is an essential matter that is a topic of discussion in families with the youth. Girls are kept in the spot and are everyday expected and taught to dress ‘decently’ which is to cover each part of their body so that they do not draw attention from the men in society. Here we are forgetting a fact that even in extremely orthodox households rape cases are reported.
‘Gumrah’ is a TV show, which showcases many criminal cases that affected the system that pertains the society. A case was highlighted in which a girl who was new to the India’s age long custom (as discussed in the article till now), was raped by young boys who were raised in the customs that attracted them towards the girl who was new in the environment.
So, it is essential in today's time that to stop the ills in society, the mentality of people must change and for this to happen, the youth have to take the first step.

Internship: A platform for learning

Law is an extremely prestigious profession where one gets to explore and gain knowledge from issues in every field. This is the reason why I decided to be part of the program.

Last year, when I was asked what I wanted to pursue after high school, I was completely confused as I always left everything to fate. When I came across a lawyer and he explained me what kind of opportunities I would get, I was thrilled by the idea. There was a lot of discussion though, in my family as I would be the first in the family to pursue such a career. Later I found out that there was a greater topic that they worried about. It was I being a girl doing law.

I interned recently at a local body, which gave me an opportunity to go to a school where a five-day workshop was being conducted on Gender Stereotypes and status of women in India. I would now give a brief about what all, even after being aware about, I realized.

Gender-based discrimination is an issue which girls in India especially face everyday. Travelling in public transport, working somewhere, studying at school or college, even at home, gender is highly considered. Girls are not supposed to speak with a raised tone with anyone, they should walk, sit, eat properly, they are supposed to have meal after everyone is done having at home, women earlier were considered not to even step out of the house at least this has changed, in some households. Even the choice of profession depends on the sex one is. Teacher, nurse, etc. are considered right for girls while other professions like boxing, medicine (doctor), pilot, etc. are considered more suitable for boys.

Eve teasing, throwing of acid, rape, are common threats that every girl have in mind before stepping out of the house. Even home is not a safe place. Many men beat their wives, abuse women verbally, mentally and physically.

I got the opportunity to interact with high school students about the women oriented verbal abuses in present time. I have realized that as the country is becoming more liberal, language is also deteriorating with it. Be it any language, all abuses are women oriented except a few. Here there is a need to question, why is it so?

I have realized at my internship that simply accepting the teachings of society is not going to change anything. It is high time that we start questioning and retrieve answers on everything.
